Glossy Acrylic Panels

Definition

Acrylic has the scientific name of PMMA (Polymethyl Methacrylate) and is a resin derived from petroleum refining. Acrylic is often pressed on the surface of industrial wood materials for interior applications such as cabinets. Acrylic sheet makes the finished surface feel similar to lacquer, high gloss, non-toxic. Acrylic panels have a very diverse range of colors and will give the interior surface a mirror-like shine.

Origin

Acrylic was first manufactured in 1928 and marketed five years later by the Rohm and Haas Company. It is known to be one of the most transparent plastics available today. Some of Acrylic's first applications were during World War II when it was used for submarine periscopes, aircraft windows, and turrets.

Acrylic in modern times is used in quite a number of fields, manufacturers often take advantage of Acrylic's natural transparency for these applications. Some common applications include lenses, artificial nails, paints, security fences, medical devices, LCD screens and furniture. Suitable for modern architecture, simple, neutral, ... and not suitable for classical, neoclassical, retro or vintage architecture types.

Comparision between Acrylic and Laminate

Currently, on laminate board materials, Laminate panels have started to have glossy surface models, but for comparison, Acrylic and Laminate panels still have significant differences as follows:

Laminate panels have good resistance to moisture and heat, so they are relatively durable.
Cost	Because Acrylic panels are more aesthetically pleasing and easy to clean, they come with a higher price than laminate.	Laminate panels have a lower price than Acrylic and can be used in more diverse areas.
